Leadership Hack 1: How to Build Sustainable Systems

Have you ever wondered at how nature just works? The sun, trees, ocean don’t have a manager to supervise them yet everything works perfectly. That’s because the secret to sustainability isn’t more effort, it’s in smarter systems. ⚡️

Growing up, one of my favorite channels was Nat Geo Wild. I’ve always been fascinated by how the Creator designed systems to run effortlessly for centuries without needing His direct intervention. The intelligent design is not just about Beauty, it is about Sustainability.

Take the water cycle for instance. ๐Ÿ’ง

The Sun heats a lake, causing water to evaporate as Vapor that rises, cools, and turns into Clouds. When the time is right, it falls as Rain, nourishing plant life. Plants, in turn, support animals and humans with oxygen and food. Water then flows back to the lake, and the cycle repeats. No one is manually running it, yet it never fails. ๐Ÿ”

Let’s look at how you can design one in your business:

- Core Beneficiary ➡️ Plant Life ➡️ Your Key Staff

Your people are the foundation of your business. The healthier and more skilled they are, the better they perform.

- Essential Resource ➡️ Water ➡️ Training, Tools, Good Pay & Motivation

Give them what they need to grow; knowledge, resources, fair pay, and a reason to care.

- Primary Source ➡️ Lake ➡️ Business Revenue

Without revenue, none of this is possible.

- Delivery System ➡️ The Sun ➡️ Leadership & Company Culture

It’s leadership’s job to ensure resources get where they need to go.

- Renewal Mechanism ➡️ Rain & Runoff ➡️ Customer Service & Productivity

Well-supported staff create great experiences, leading to repeat business, referrals, and steady revenue.

This natural loop shows you how to build systems that do not depend on constant intervention.

Now, how do you apply it?

1. Identify the core beneficiary and essential resource. Who must thrive for the system to work? What do they need most?

2. Create a seamless delivery system. Just like the sun moves water, your system should ensure resources flow efficiently, through automation, delegation, or policies.

3. Ensure continuous renewal. Waste should recycle into fuel, and feedback loops should strengthen the system over time.

Remember, the best systems do not need micromanagement, they just work. The best leaders build like this.

Next post will be a hack that ensures the plants desire growth.
